Protect Your Kids!

Protect Your Kids:

I wish folks protected their kids, and defended their right for a free and equal education the way they cape for their favorite sports team or their mega-church reverends.

Knowledge is Parent Power:

As parents, a lot of us have no idea what goes on with our kids after we drop them off at childcare. We are training our kids to be obedient to abusers, and we aren’t listening to our kids. I observe all of my daughter’s mannerisms when she’s in front of her caretakers. I hear loudly and attentively when she says she doesn’t like someone.

Question You Kids:

Uniquely, our kids are in an era where being expressive is essential, and we have to put ourselves in place to where we are attentive listeners. Are we asking our children the right questions? How was your day? Did anyone make you feel uncomfortable today? How was lunch? Did you make a “happy plate”? Who was on lunch duty today? Did he/she respect your space? Did anyone put their hands on your person?

Moreover, if my daughter told me an adult pulled her hair or touched her inappropriately, you guys would have to pray for me. There is no amount of decency or decorum that I could have for someone to treat a child in that manner. Yet, this happens every day, day in and day out

Predators Amongst your Kids:

Meanwhile in New York City public schools we continue to hand our students over to these monsters. This is not exclusive to NYC public schools, this happens in a myriad of school districts throughout the United States. We must do a better job of ensuring the safety of our children.

Not to mention, these folks are praying on our kids. And they’re doing it in the name of education. Parents that are working many jobs to stay afloat become soft targets for these predators. Anytime an educator suggests that your child spend time with them outside the confines of a school setting, that should be a red flag for parents. This is not to say that all adults have bad intentions, but with the way, society is currently, my kids won’t be the sacrificial lambs as we look to find the last good educator.

As the referee says to the boxer before the fight, “protect yourself at all times,” in this case, protect your kids at all times.

1.8 Million Reasons

Parishioners of these mega-churches, when will enough be enough?

Jon Gray does not under any circumstances deserve to live in a 1.8 million dollar home unless he purchased it himself.

Salaries for Clergy:

It took me a while to understand why the clergy had to be paid. I had finally come to a place of acceptance realizing that many clergies pour their hearts and souls into the message they deliver on Sunday, and the other countless amounts they do during the week in preparing.

Personally, I feel the CEO of the church should live a modestly simple lifestyle. Meaning, I don’t think the pastor should be struggling, but I also don’t think the pastor should be living like a pro athlete or a celebrity.

Some will make the argument that this is God’s will. That’s where the message gets convoluted. The Bible portrays Jesus as a man of modest means, he was a carpenter. Modest means should be the standard for someone delivering the word of Christ.

Lambo First Lady:

When you have the First Lady of the church driving a Lamborghini, it’s hard to defend that. So while this may be okay with some of you, this isn’t okay with me.

No to mention recent allegations of infidelity, which happens a lot in the search. I never understood how and why so much faith was put into the people delivering the word, without holding them to the highest of standards.

Not my Church:

So, as I think back to MLK JR., and the long successive line of clergy that has lifted the black church up, as well as its provisioners, I’m going to have to vote No on these mega-churches and the high salaries and fringe benefits that they pay their CEO’s.

I’m 100% positive that we are going to disagree on my take. That said, I’m okay with agreeing to disagree.

Principal Resigns Amidst Video Surfacing

Principal Resigns:

Amistad Academy, located in New Haven Connecticut is a school that gives me mixed emotions.

Amistad High 2013 Signing Day

On the one hand, this school proves that if you pour resources into Students of color, they can achieve, and achieve at a very high level. Amistad is the number one ranked high school in Ct. It’s also the number 55th ranked high school in the US, and the 19th ranked charter high school in the United States, according to US News and World Reports.

Our (Riverhead Charter School’s) 9th grade starts in 2020-21. Amistad was definitely on our list of schools to visit.

Moreover, Amistad High School recently made news for a different reason. A video surfaced showing the principal of the school, physically accosting one of his former students. According to witnesses, this event took place in October; however, the principal stayed on the job sometime after that. That’s my concern. If someone poses a threat to students, schools can’t be in a wait and see position. The Amistad board should have placed its principal of paid leave until they thoroughly investigated the incident.

Many of my posts are pro-charter schools. I feel charter schools give SoC the best opportunity to succeed in education, but I have no problem calling out people that don’t act in the best interest of students. So to be clear, I’m an advocate for charter schools, but I put the interests of students before anything else. Parents and administrators have to defend the students over the institutions.

The video is graphic. Please keep that in mind as you view it.

My significant takeaways are, adults have to model the behavior that they expect from the students. Adults also have to allow “cooler heads to prevail” in times of high stress. How could this whole situation be avoided?
